Black & Blue 20th edition - WATCH OUT, here we come !
This will be my very first Black & Blue party, and I am already officially excited ! In 10 days from now, on the 10/10/10, thousands of people wearing black and blue attire will gather to celebrate diversity, creativity and culture. Featured under one roof, the house room & the trance room will host internationally renowned DJs & entertainers that will surely keep the crowd smiling and dancing.  For those people that need additional incentives or "excuses" to party, this is a not-for-profit event whereby the proceeds go to charity! HIV/AIDS' programs, as well as gay & lesbian community groups, greatly benefit by the funds raised at Black & Blue.

  * * *  Go ahead, eat all the Thanksgiving turkey you want because you'll need it to keep you going on the dancefloor !   * * *

My Insights: I am particularly looking forward to seeing my favorite DJs Chus & Ceballos - the Spanish duo always bring a positive vibe to the party & quite frankly never disappoint.  I am curious to see what Marco V will be like live - I have been a fan of his TopTenMix podcasts for years now, but they have lacked a certain something all summer.  And finally, I will be sure to check out Gareth Emery, Hernan Cattaneo, Mark Anthony & the rest of the DJ line-up...Wowwy party go-ers are in for a treat !
* Surprise, surprise, I already have my outfit picked & ready for the big day...a blue wig, large blue eyelashes, an LED light up skirt, a black spandex top, blue nail polish & glitter. Hopefully you have your outfit planned & ready to go too!

Be sure to check back for my Black & Blue review!

Seeing as it's the 20th anniversary, please continue reading for a bit of party History:
Back in 1991, a group of friends got together & organized a large party whereby the proceeds would go to charity.  From there, a not for profit foundation called the Bad Boy Club Montreal (BBCM) was started, and continued to grow over the years.  It started with 800 attendees for the one party and now boasts up to 80,000 people for 50 events over the course of a week. In fact, over 1 million dollars have been raised by BBCM throughout the years. Simply amazing !
"The mission of this foundation is to create world-class events that attract people from all over the world, generating revenues for the foundation. These activities are a celebration and acknowledgement of a unique community and culture. That is, the gay community and the gay culture. A celebration that is non-discriminatory and includes men and women, straight and gay."
In addition, the BBCM foundation hosts four other parties including Bal des Boys on NYE, Red party on Valentine's Day, Hot & Dry in May, and Twist for gay pride in August.  Partiers from all over the world have been flocking to and suppporting these parties, and with good reason.

Congratulations on the past 20 years BBCM!!!

Spotlight : Buddha Bar

Now that we have established how to be the life of the party, and how to dance without embarassing oneself, we need somewhere to party!  My first club spotlight will feature one of my favorite places in Ottawa - Buddha Bar

Located in the heart of the Byward Market at 104 Clarence Street, Buddha Bar features brilliant beats, as well as the "friendliest, most experienced and knowledgeable promoters, artists, management and staff".

Buddha Bar boasts THREE stellar nights:
* Wednesdays is Blendsdays - tonight !!! THE best place to party on a Wednesday night with Sound Syndicate DJs & DJ Frame blending up a variety of musical treats, while Jack & Jager are only $4. Sweet!
Friday night 'The Movement' : DJs Ryan Labelle, Paulo Cardoso & many special guests drop sick beats that will be sure to make you move.  Special guests include: Martin Villeneuve, Tim Foran, Disko Dave, Jason Jesse, Kenny Porter, Mark Power, and so forth.
* Saturday night 'The Bang Up' : residents Matt Kelly, Ian Durkin & guests provide you with "an assortment of the hottest music from funk, breaks, hiphop, electro, indie, dance, anthems".

You can find me at Buddha Bar on most Friday nights!
Why?

  • First and foremost, the music ... I love dancing to house music ! Got to support the local DJ's - Ottawa is filled with great talent.

  • When I am out in Ottawa, I like to know the people around me & be surrounded by good vibes!  Buddha's staff certainly delivers: Ash is welcoming at the door, Anne-Renée & Karine are being their sexy selves serving up drinks, AJ is the host with the most, Ryan L is making sure everything is running smoothly & DJing, so you get the point = amazing people make for good times (and I didnt even mention everyone!).

  • The crowd is a solid good mix of people, more mature, friendly & fun.

  • Cover & drinks are well priced so you can have fun without worrying about the financials.
Party Tip: Just a small warning about the washrooms - they are quite limited; so if you need to go, allow yourself enough time in case there is a line ;) we wouldn't want any accidents!

In the Beginning...

In the beginning there was Jack … and Jack had a groove
And from this groove came the grooves of all grooves.
And while one day viciously throwing down on his box,
Jack boldly declared “Let There Be House” and House music was born.
WELCOME TO THE LIFE OF THE PARTY !

Here I will be posting various articles, interviews, pictures and sound bites relating to what I am currently feeling in the Electronic Dance Music party scene, and whatever else happens to inspire me.
